How to Clean Your Gutters

Hey there, homeowner! Are your gutters looking a little worse for wear? Don't worry, it's easy to get them back in tip-top shape with a little TLC.

5 Steps To Cleaning Your Gutters

1. Get rid of the junk

The first step in gutter cleaning is to remove all the leaves, twigs, and other goodies that have been collecting up there. You can use a ladder, a gutter scoop, or a high-pressure hose to blast everything out (just be careful not to blast yourself off the ladder in the process).

2. Give them a rinse

Once you've removed all the visible debris, use a garden hose to rinse out the gutters. This will help to get rid of any smaller particles or mud that might be stuck in there. Bonus points if you have a gutter flusher attachment – it's like a giant, narrow water gun that makes the job way more fun.

3. Check the downspouts

Don't forget to check the downspouts (the vertical pipes that carry water away from the gutters) to make sure they're clear and functioning properly. If they're clogged, use a plumber's snake or similar tool to clear the blockage.

4. Fix any damage

If you notice any cracks, holes, or other damage to the gutters, it's important to get them repaired as soon as possible. Trust me, you don't want to wait until the next big rainstorm to find out that your gutters are leaking.

5. Consider gutter guards

Sorta like dental dams for your house. Gutter guards are screens or covers that are installed over the top of the gutters to prevent debris from entering. While they won't completely eliminate the need for gutter cleaning, they can definitely help to reduce the frequency. And let's be real, who wouldn't want to do one less chore around the house?

This'll keep your gutters clean and help keep your home safe from water damage.

Happy cleaning outing!

(Outing is a word, right?)
